“Radio Jeans”, the Mediterranean radio
Why "Radio Jeans"? Let's know something about the name!
According to history, the primacy of jeans is Genoa city. In fact, the first
news about the mythical tissue come from XV century, when this kind of
"blue cloth" made in Turin province (Chieri) was used to package
sails and to cover goods in the seaport.
In XVI century, the "blu di Genova", or Genoese corduroy
pigmented with indigo, spread quickly all around Europe, specially among
English merchants. They named this particular cloth with the french expression
“bleu de Gênes”, and then, in 1567, with
the english declension "jeans".
It seems quite sure that conversion from cloth's pieces to garment occurred in
Genoa city. However, we have to wait 1850 to identify the shape we are used to,
when San Francisco Levi Strauss and his partner Jacob David Youphes brought out
a type of resistant, five-pocket trousers, purpose made for gold seekers.
